What is True Divine Feminine Energy?

What is True Divine Feminine Energy?

Over the past few years, the concept of the Divine Feminine has gained widespread attention as many of us search for balance—within ourselves, our relationships, and our emotions. With so much information out there, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure about what the Divine Feminine truly means.

So, let’s break down what it really is, where it originates, and how understanding it can empower women to embrace their truest selves.

Divine Feminine and Masculine Energies

It’s important to recognize that both divine feminine and divine masculine energies exist within all of us—regardless of gender—and can be expressed in many ways. But where did these ideas come from? Is it just a modern concept, or does it have deeper roots?

Ancient Origins of Divine Feminine and Masculine

The origins of divine feminine and divine masculine energy can be traced back thousands of years across ancient spiritual traditions. Here are some of the key philosophies and beliefs that honor these energies:

Hinduism and Tantra: The chakra system originates from ancient Indian traditions like Hinduism and Tantra. In these systems, masculine (Shiva) and feminine (Shakti) energies are universal forces. Shiva represents pure consciousness and stillness, while Shakti embodies creativity and dynamic expression. Together, they form the foundation of existence and balance.

Taoism (Yin and Yang): In Taoist philosophy from ancient China, yin and yang are complementary forces of nature. Yin (the feminine) symbolizes receptivity, nurturing, and intuition, while yang (the masculine) is active, assertive, and analytical. The balance of these forces reflects the natural rhythms and cycles of life.

Ancient Egyptian and Greco-Roman Cultures: Deities in Egyptian and Greco-Roman pantheons express divine feminine and masculine qualities. Goddesses like Isis (Egyptian) and Aphrodite (Greek) represent nurturing, sensuality, and power. Gods like Osiris and Zeus embody strength, protection, and logic.

Mystery Schools and Hermetic Traditions: Esoteric traditions like the Hermetic Mystery Schools (originating in Hellenistic Egypt) emphasize the balance between masculine and feminine principles as crucial for spiritual development. The idea of "As above, so below; as within, so without" reflects the need for harmony between these energies within oneself.

Sufism and Kabbalah: In Sufism (Islamic mysticism) and Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism), there is an exploration of divine qualities that encompass both feminine and masculine aspects of God and the soul’s journey toward balance.

Divine Feminine and Masculine in Christianity

In Christianity, both the divine feminine and masculine energies are reflected through various symbols and figures. While God is traditionally viewed in a masculine light as "Father," elements of divine femininity are also present. Throughout the Bible, qualities like nurturing, compassion, and wisdom are depicted as divine attributes.

For example, in the Old Testament, Sophia (or “Wisdom”) is personified as a feminine figure, representing God's wisdom and the creative, nurturing aspect of the divine. Similarly, the Holy Spirit is often associated with comfort, guidance, and inspiration—qualities that align with the divine feminine.

Additionally, Mary, the mother of Jesus, embodies divine feminine qualities like purity, nurturing, and unconditional love. She is seen as the intercessor and a compassionate mother figure, offering a model of divine femininity that supports and complements the masculine qualities of strength and protection embodied by Jesus.

Together, these figures show how Christianity encompasses both divine masculine and feminine energies, teaching that a balance of compassion, wisdom, and strength is essential to the faith.

The Chakra System and Divine Energies

I teach divine feminine and masculine energy through the lens of the chakra system, which helps bring clarity and an approachable understanding. The chakra system consists of seven energy centers, each connected to either masculine or feminine qualities, with the exception of the crown chakra, which is universal. Let’s break them down:

Root Chakra (First Chakra)

  • Location: Base of the spine (adrenal glands)

  • Color: Red

  • Energy: Masculine

  • Qualities: Groundedness, safety, stability, tradition, and connection to the physical world.

Sacral Chakra (Second Chakra)

  • Location: Lower pelvic area

  • Color: Orange

  • Energy: Feminine

  • Qualities: Creativity, emotions, intimacy, pleasure, and fun.

Solar Plexus Chakra (Third Chakra)

  • Location: Abdomen

  • Color: Yellow

  • Energy: Masculine

  • Qualities: Personal power, energy, confidence, and discipline.

Heart Chakra (Fourth Chakra)

  • Location: Heart

  • Color: Green

  • Energy: Feminine

  • Qualities: Love, compassion, empathy, and healing.

Throat Chakra (Fifth Chakra)

  • Location: Throat

  • Color: Light blue

  • Energy: Masculine

  • Qualities: Communication, honesty, truth, and self-expression.

Third Eye Chakra (Sixth Chakra)

  • Location: Brow area

  • Color: Indigo

  • Energy: Feminine

  • Qualities: Mental clarity, spiritual vision, intuition, and dreams.

Crown Chakra (Seventh Chakra)

  • Location: Above the head

  • Energy: Universal

  • Qualities: Universal connection, empathy, and awareness of interconnectedness.

Women naturally thrive within the three main feminine chakras: the sacral (creativity and emotional flow), heart (nurturing and love), and third eye (intuition and spiritual vision). However, stress, trauma, and other factors can block or imbalance these energies.

For example, an imbalanced root chakra can hinder feelings of safety, making it difficult to access creativity or emotional pleasure. Balancing both the feminine and masculine energies within you is key to holistic wellness.

What is Not Divine Feminine Energy?

Feminine energy is intangible. It's not defined by how you dress, how you wear your makeup, or how you speak. It’s not about playing manipulative games or engaging in self-care practices like face masks and pilates as a performance. Instead, it’s an energy you embody—a reflection of your journey to heal, restore, and become whole.

Unlike masculine energy, which is more physical, seen, and heard, feminine energy is often felt and expressed intuitively. It’s easy to misunderstand or overlook its power, but true feminine energy, when honored and balanced, is a potent force for transformation.

Femininity vs. Feminine Energy

Femininity is the outward expression of feminine energy—how you embody style, nurture, and express yourself. For some women, embracing femininity through physical expression can be a way to celebrate their energy. However, remember that someone can carry strong feminine energy without necessarily adhering to conventional feminine expressions. Conversely, a woman might appear traditionally feminine but feel more aligned with masculine energy.

Think of it this way: spirituality isn’t defined by wearing specific clothing or following strict routines. It’s something felt within, regardless of outward appearance.
